When was Sussex Baptist founded?

Sussex Baptist has a rich history. It all began in 1865 when the first services were held in the Mechanics Institute Hall. A church building was built in 1870 at its current location on Church Avenue. By the time the Baptist Convention of the Maritime Provinces was formed in 1905, there were two Baptist churches in Sussex, the one on Church Avenue and one on Main Street. The two churches merged together in 1916 to become a member of the Convention and be named United Baptist Church of Sussex. This church building was eventually replaced by a new building in 1968 with numerous changes happening over the years. In 2011, the church became incorporated as Sussex Baptist Church Inc.

What is our Mission?

Our mission here at Sussex Baptist is to "create an environment where people desire to come to Christ and grow in Christ." We seek to accomplish this both practically and spiritually by sharing the love of Jesus Christ and the gospel message with everyone that we interact with. We're just ordinary people serving ordinary people for an extraordinary reason- that reason is to share the good news that Jesus Christ died in our place so that we wouldn't have to die as a result of our sin and so that we could be reconciled with God. We want to spread this message to everyone so that they will choose to follow Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him.
